This digital repository of archival sources on eighteenth-century social welfare history currently holds over 1,000 manuscript pages from more than a dozen workhouses gathered from local county record offices and institutions across England.  We currently have both archival sources and digital images of workhouse structures.  Learn more about the project on our About Page.

These documents have been compiled by Dr. Susannah Ottaway in the course of her research. They have also been used to support a digital reconstruction project and course on "Bringing the English Past to Virtual Life," co-taught with Dr. Austin Mason at Carleton College.
