Mary-Ann's Life in Documents
Most of the information we've found on Mary-Ann comes from what her family received from the workhouse.
At St. Andrew's Undershaft, paupers could request items from the wokrhouse master. Here, in this space, we find Mary-Ann, her cousin, Ann, and her grandmother requesting basic items like shoes and stockings over and over again.
Mary-Ann's appearances in the Workhouse. Most of these pages detail various times that the Stevens family requested or received items from the Workhouse, but note page 214 (the last item), where Mary-Ann attempts to become an apprentice, but this is protested by her father. Eventually, she does become an apprentice, but why her father protested this is unknown.
